June 6, 1944, one of history's most significant markers, is immortalized as D-Day. That day, 160,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, France. This operation, characterized with sacrifice and bravery, began the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control and led to the Allied victory of World War II.
We were deeply moved and honored when we received the following letter from longtime DVD subscriber 95-year-old Jack Ramsey's family.
As a proud American who landed on the shores of Normandy, Jack Ramsey is a patriot that partook in one of the most important events of the past century. His family thanked us for our service, but we thank him even more for his service to our country. We are honored that we could provide this movie lover with films for over a decade.
His daughter, Zella, sent us these photos of Jack. We think he looks rather Stan Lee-like!
On D-Day, then General and future President Dwight D. Eisenhower gave a speech that included the following:
“I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory.”
