For those of you also admiring the TCMFF from afar this week, I’ve prepared a four-day schedule of movies showing at the festival that you can also rent directly from DVD Netflix. Piece together your own festival. Set aside four days with just you and the movies or watch at your own pace with your own popcorn. If you want to increase the at-home verisimilitude, smuggle a burrito into your home theater in your backpack. Increase the difficulty with a ramen bowl. Unfortunately, the at-home festival won’t have the same cache. You probably won’t be watching movies on 35mm or lining up to see Ann-Margaret introduce Bye Bye Birdie (1963) or Richard Dreyfuss and American Graffiti (1973). This is why we go. These are the memories we can’t make anywhere else.
