Some times you just need comfort – whether it’s nostalgia that reminds you of simpler days, or indulgence that offers you an escape – a good movie can feel like a warm hug. Here are my ABCs of comfort films, the ones that give me just what I need when I need it.
When I have hope it pays to be unique.
When I’m in a dark mood.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
When I feel like something wickedly sweet.
When I need a different take on things.
When I need to laugh at how dumb high schoolers are.
When I need a good punching bag.
When I’m feeling indulgent.
When I need the underdog to get away with murder… literally.
When I need to laugh at how dumb adults are.
When I need to stick it to the man.
When I need the underdog to win.
When I need a little voodoo – who do? You do!
When I need to know what it feels like to get away with train robbery.
Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase
When I need a good, old-fashioned mystery.
When I need to stick it to the man some more.
When I want a romantic trip to Ireland.
When I need a winning streak.
When everyone is getting on my nerves.
When I need an untraditional love story.
When I want good sci-fi and ‘90s Arnold.
When I want an impossible family comedy… and a trip to New Orleans.
When I need something wicked, otherworldly, and yet still romantic.
When a little adventure is calling my name.
When I need a good backstory (yes, unpopular opinion: this is the best X-Men movie).
When I’m feeling adventurous.
When I’m feeling like an orange mocha Frappuccino.
