5 Alien Movies You Should Watch

December 20, 2017 in Collections

By Tiffany Unscripted of Your Film Review

After reading how our government spent millions on UFO research, I thought it would be a great idea to cover five UFO-related movies that amazed, sucked, or left you truly wondering if there really is life on other planets.

Alien movies have always been a staple in my movie library. They have entertained millions of movie lovers. Why the fascination?

Well, for centuries, people have been searching for the meaning of life and existence. Writer, Douglas Adams, of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," took this fascination and turned it into a central joke: "the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything is 42." It has generated countless memes over the years.

So, why are people fascinated with UFOs? It is the mystery itself. People enjoy discussing it. They hold forums to question it. The write novels and produce numerous television shows to explore it. Everyone has an opinion and they don't mind sharing it with you.

I recommend a extraterrestrial movie night with friends. Serve some food and drinks. Make the night fun and entertaining by renting a diverse selection of alien films.

Check out my rental recommendations. I even included one that will make you cringe, but it too hilarious not to watch.

THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a total nerd flick. This 1981 television series was made into a movie in 2005. It's definitely a very British film. You better have a decent grasp of British humor, or this film will leave you dazed and confused.

Overall, it's worth the ending, which I will not spoil for you. For me, this movie sucked. It was too bizarre to be enjoyable. I may give it another try. Martin Freeman, Mos Def, and a host of other top-billed actors star in the film.

MARS ATTACKS!

This film will have you walking grocery aisle making the "ack-ack" sounds. I should know! My niece and I did exactly that in this store in New Jersey. We generated a lot of stares and finger-pointing.

Prepare for campy humor and silliness. It's definitely a fun movie to watch. Jack Nicholson, as President James Dale, will have you in stitches from laughter!

GALAXY QUEST

This is a Star Trek fan favorite. The 1999 film American comic science fiction film was directed by Dean Parisot and written by David Howard and Robert Gordon. It's hilarious!

Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tim Allen, Sam Rockwell, Tony Shalhoub, and Daryl Mitchell will make you spurt your drink out your nose, so make sure you watch with caution.

MISSION TO MARS

Have you ever wondered about the face on the Mars planet? This film doesn't directly explore what the face is. The focus is on the astronauts and their discovery of a building. The film received a 25% Rotten Tomatoes score, but audiences still liked the film.

The film has an interesting explanation for creation at the end. This movie is for those seeking answers to the universe, from a different viewpoint. I love the cast, and especially Gary Sinise in this movie. He's totally underrated.

THE MARTIAN

This is another Mars movie. Just make sure you get plenty of rest before watching it. I fell asleep while watching it! I tried watching it several times and ended up snoozing.

But don't take my word for it. This movie received high scores from IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. This is a movie for those who lean more towards science than fantasy in their love for sci-fi. I find this amusing because I'm a science geek, but I think the pacing of this film didn't mesh with me. I just couldn't keep my eyes open! Matt Damon makes a better action star.
