Instead becoming a Dustin Hoffman-type leading man, Grodin went on to perfect the scene-stealing supporting player in major Hollywood films like Rosemary’s Baby (1968), Catch-22 (1970), Heaven Can Wait (1978), and Real Life (1979). He could tap into the essence of being human with grace, but also with a perfectly timed comment about the strangeness of it all.
