Love to travel? Me too! However, after watching these movies, I’ve second guessed a few travel decisions I’ve made. Here are my top five movies to avoid watching before you travel.....
I made the huge mistake of watching this before I took a trip to Europe. It had just come out and everyone was telling me about it. As soon as my friend booked us a room in a hostel, all I could think about was getting murdered. GREAT. Don’t watch it; especially before you stay in a hostel.
Hiking trip with friends + cannibalistic, inbred mountain men? If you’re planning on taking a hiking trip where you go deep into the mountains, then refrain from watching this movie until you get back. This movie is not only scary; it’s seriously creepy. And the last thing you need while hiking is to constantly look over your shoulder wondering who’s going to pop out of the woods and chase you down.
I’ve developed some sort of weird paranoia while traveling where I have to check my bag and belongings every chance I get. Why?! It’s because of THIS movie. Two friends go to Thailand, meet a guy, get drugs planted in their belongings, and then BOOM. Sentenced to 33 years in jail in a foreign country. No thanks! If anything, I’ve become more aware of my surroundings, but I’m constantly fearful while going through security that they are going to find something and this will happen to me.
This movie is a classic. I’ve watched it over 20 times throughout my life. However, I can’t even get on a pontoon now without thinking that it’s going to sink. Planning a cruise to an amazing destination? Then save this film to enjoy when you’re back safe on land. Otherwise, you’ll be on the deck secretly scoping out where the life jackets are located and nervously counting lifeboats.
I think John Denver should be banned from playing in all airports. I heard it once in the airport in Portland and all I could think about was this movie and the opening scene of the plane crash. This movie is so good! Just don’t watch it before you’re going to travel. You’ll be sitting in the airport terminal second guessing your decision and looking for "clues" as to what’s going to happen next.
Happy travels, everyone! Be safe. Have fun and only watch these movies in the comfort of your home once you return from your adventure. With a big bowl of popcorn, of course.
