When my friends at Netflix DVD asked who wanted to write a birthday post for Stan Lee’s December 28th birthday, I jumped at the chance. I LOVE Marvel movies and one of my favorite parts is keeping an eye out for Stan Lee to pop up. I was so sad to see that he passed away on Monday, November 12th at the age of 95.
To honor him, I have put together this list of some of my favorite Stan Lee cameos over the past 20 years:
Synopsis: Amid increasing fear and bigotry, Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) provides a safe haven for powerful outcasts like Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Rogue (Anna Paquin) and Storm (Halle Berry), who are genetically gifted mutants – and the world's newest, most persecuted minority group. In an explosive battle for freedom and honor, the X-Men take on Magneto (Ian McKellen) and his band of evil mutants, who relish the public's paranoia.
Stan Lee Sighting: When Senator Kelly comes out of the sea as a mutant, you can see Stan as the hot dog vendor.
Synopsis: The classic comic book makes its big-screen debut under the imaginative direction of Ang Lee. Researcher Dr. Bruce Banner's (Eric Bana) failed experiments cause him to mutate into a powerful and savage green-skinned hulk when he loses control of his emotions. And the only person who seems to stand by him is his girlfriend, Betty Ross (Jennifer Connelly), proving that love is indeed blind. Nick Nolte co-stars as Banner's father.
Stan Lee Sighting: Stan Lee shows up as a security guard, beside original Hulk, Lou Ferrigno!
Synopsis: This was the third Spider-Man with Tobey Maquire as the lead. The seemingly invincible Spider-Man goes up against an all-new crop of villains – including the shape-shifting Sandman – in the third installment of this blockbuster comic book adventure series.
Stan Lee Sighting: Peter Parker walks through Times Square and Stan turns to him and says, “you know, I guess one person can make a difference.”
Synopsis: Extending the saga of Marvel's The Avengers, this superhero sequel finds Steve Rogers living quietly in Washington but growing increasingly restless. So when a deadly new foe surfaces, he transforms into Captain America and allies with Black Widow.
Stan Lee Sighting: Stan is a security guard again, this time at the Smithsonian Institute when Captain America steals his suit from an exhibition.
Synopsis: After an auto accident ends his career as a neurosurgeon, Stephen Strange embarks on a quest to heal himself. His path leads him to the Ancient One, a mysterious mentor who trains Strange to defend Earth by becoming the next Sorcerer Supreme.
Stan Lee Sighting: You can see Stan happily reading a book while riding a bus during Doctor Strange and Baron Mordo’s battle with Kaecilius.
Synopsis: In the ancient war's epic third chapter, Thor is being held captive on the far side of the cosmos when he learns that the villainous Hela plans to destroy Asgard. But to save his people, Thor must prevail in a gladiatorial contest against the Hulk.
Stan Lee Sighting: This is my FAVORITE of the Stan Lee sightings… he shows up to give Thor his sassy, sexy haircut!
