As we’ve been working slowly through the 1900s in our decades posts here at DVD Netflix, I’m excited to travel into the 2000s today! I’m one of those people who feel like 2000 was just like 2 years ago… but here we are about to hit the roaring 2020s soon?!
Before we go back to bobbing our hair and rouging our knees, let’s take a look back at my favorite movies from the 2000s! I narrowed down my list to the 5 movies that I felt made the biggest impact – either I couldn’t stop thinking about them, or they make me laugh no matter how many times I re-watch them.
If you were to ask me my absolute favorite movie, Little Miss Sunshine wins hands down every time. The drama and comedy and all-around family dynamic in this movie just sucks me in every time I see it. I can’t help but feel for the dad (even when he’s being a butthole), totally relate to the mom, and pull for little Olive even though I know exactly what is coming around the corner! The entire cast is stellar, but Steve Carell takes my breath away in this one.
If you haven’t seen it, don’t bother to watch a trailer… trust me, just add it to your DVD queue and thank me later!
This is one of those movies that really makes you think… and even this many years later I will still have a random thought about how the whole pre-crime thing would work. This movie answers the question of what would happen when technology can predict crimes before they are committed. Of course, not everything goes perfect, which makes for a fun movie!
For this one, you’re allowed to check out the trailer:
I was (and am) a huge fan of the Harry Potter books and I couldn’t even imagine how they would bring the amazing world of Hogwarts to the big screen without messing it up… but holy cow did they deliver! This movie was the first in the Harry Potter movies and it immediately stole my heart.
You can step into the magical trailer here:
What would Christmas even be like without my yearly watch of Will Ferrell’s masterpiece?! I mean, smiling IS my favorite and in my house it doesn’t feel like Christmas until I load up our Elf DVD and snuggle up to enjoy some holiday goodness.
Also, this is totally me every time I take the escalator underground to get on the metro…
This movie is absolute perfection. The music! The dancing! Nicole Kidman’s ethereal beauty!
You know from the beginning that they are doomed, but you can’t help getting sucked in and hoping love will conquer all anyways. Here, just watch the trailer and you will be entranced:
And now that there is a Moulin Rouge show playing on Broadway, I’m scheming to get there in person!
