From Screen to Screen: Movies Based on Video Games

September 11, 2017 in Collections

Assassin's Creed, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, World of Warcraft, Street Fighter—you know you've made it as a video game franchise when Hollywood makes a movie version. Tons of the most popular video games have at least one screen adaptation, and there are also plenty of movies with plots featuring the video game experience.

TRON: LEGACY

While investigating the mysterious disappearance of his father, Kevin, techie Sam Flynn inadvertently lands in a beguiling computerized world of enslaved gladiators, where his dad has been living for more than 20 years.

WRECK-IT RALPH

Wreck-It Ralph longs to be the good guy instead of the villain in an old-school video game. He sees his chance and sneaks into the arcade's newest game, a flashy first-person shooter. But in doing the forbidden, he unleashes a deadly enemy.

TOMB RAIDER

Angelina Jolie stars as English aristocrat Lara Croft. Skilled in hand-to-hand combat, she must recover lost antiquities before the Illuminati finds them, and meets her match in the evil Powell.

ASSASSIN'S CREED

Expanding the landscape of the titular video-game franchise, this adventure saga follows Callum Lynch (played by Michael Fassbender), who discovers his link to a secret medieval society called the Assassins and acquires their skills to take on their age-old foes, the Templars.

HITMAN: AGENT 47

Drawing inspiration from the "Hitman" series of video games, this futuristic action-thriller follows young Katia van Dees as she joins forces with a genetically engineered assassin to find her missing father and unravel the mystery of her origins.

WARCRAFT

The best-selling World of Warcraft franchise comes to life in this epic adventure that pits humans against orcs as warriors from the dying planet of Draenor attempt to take over the human-controlled world of Azeroth.
