DVD: You joined DVD Netflix in 2004. Do you remember what prompted you to join?
Bil: It was Memorial Day weekend in 2004. We [my wife and I] went to the movies to see what turned out to be a horrible movie. People don’t know how to behave, they make noise with candy wrappers, they don’t know when to shut off their cell phones, and all that. I went home and signed up for Netflix.
DVD: Has your movie-going experience changed since becoming a member of DVD Netflix?
Bil: Our membership to DVD Netflix completely eliminated the need to go the movies at a movie theater or IMAX. Not only do we get to watch the movies on our large screen TV whenever we want, we can pause the movies at any point. Plus, you don't pay outrageous prices for over-salted popcorn and other stuff at the theater snack bars It’s better than the theater experience.
DVD: You mentioned your DVD Netflix membership saved you a bit of money, too!
Bil: We killed cable TV—so that’s over $20,000 we’ve saved now. We bought our large screen TV, we bought our soundsystem. Movies for us is a form of entertainment. We don’t have to go to the theater anymore. We’ve got a theater in our house with a comfy couch. Netflix changed going to the movies the way the Beatles changed music and the world.
There’s also the benefits you can’t really put a price on. Today we get together with people more often to watch DVD Netflix movies at our house or their house. It’s so much better than sitting around watching TV. Afterall, Bruce Springsteen said it best, "Fifty seven channels and nothing on."
DVD: You also have two adorable dogs! Tell us how they participate in your DVD Netflix movie nights.
Bil: So, the story here is that on the days our Netflix DVDs arrive, we let Lucky pick whether we go for a walk (which would, of course, be him putting his paw on the leash), watch 'some other DVD,' or one of the two Netflix DVDs that we put on the 'outside edge' of the choices (so he really has to reach for either Netflix DVD). Today, he put his paw on the Netflix DVD. Wahoo, we’re going to movies with Netflix! And, most certainly, there will be a walk with the dogs after that.
So why did he pick the Netflix DVD? These dogs are no dummies, because they know watching a Netflix DVD means we all get popcorn, folks! And, some people still think they are 'dumb animals!' From what we’ve seen over the years, our dogs are a whole lot smarter than some people we happen know.
DVD: What are some of your favorite movies of all-time?
Bil: Your wish is our command. My wife Diana and I watch movies together. So our top DVD picks are...
