One of my favorites, Dick Van Dyke, is celebrating his birthday! He is turning 93 years old on December 13th and has nearly as many acting credits as his age.
He’s been seen on television and in movies since the 1950s in everything from The Dick Van Dyke Show to Night at the Museum. With Mary Poppins Returns coming out in theaters, I thought it would be fun to revisit the original Mary Poppins.
Julie Andrews made her screen debut for Mary Poppins (1964) and even won an Academy Award for her role as the “practically perfect” nanny. Dick Van Dyke played both chimney sweep Bert and Mr. Dawes Sr. in the movie. His role as Bert and the fantastic “Step in Time” number will always be one of my favorites.
Here, you can enjoy it right now:
And now, get a tissue ready because Dick Van Dyke joined in on the Step in Time fun at The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 event a couple years ago:
Oh my gosh, I can’t contain myself at how adorable the man still is! And look at those fast feet!
I can’t wait to see him on screen again soon playing Mr. Dawes Jr. in Mary Poppins Returns. In fact, I think I’m going to add it to my Netflix DVD queue so I can watch it again when it comes out on DVD. You can watch the trailer here:
Now add it to your queue:
It gives me the shivers every time! You can even catch a glimpse of the birthday boy at the very end.
Happiest of birthdays to the wonderful Dick Van Dyke!
