Every year in springtime, something magical happens in Hollywood. Classic movie fans from all over the country and all over the globe convene for a celebration of their beloved movies and the people who made them.
The TCM Classic Film Festival (TCMFF) is the ultimate destination if you like old movies. Each year, the festival, run by the popular cable channel Turner Classic Movies, offers a 3.5-day schedule packed with film screenings at the TCL IMAX theatre, the Chinese Multiplex, Cinerama Dome, Grauman’s Egyptian theater, and poolside at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt hotel.
Many of the screenings feature special guests, including actors, actresses, and other filmmakers who were in the movies or have a special appreciation for them. In addition to the screenings, there are panels, presentations, an opening night red carpet premiere, a hand and footprint ceremony in the TCL courtyard, and much more. If you love classic movies, attending this festival is a dream come true.
If you can’t make it out to the festival, or even if you are attending but can’t make all of the film screenings, you can fill up your queue and throw your own film festival at home with DVD Netflix!
This year’s theme is Powerful Words: The Page Onscreen, so many of the films are adaptations of written works or original screenplays. One of the sub-themes is adaptations of Agatha Christie novels. The opening night film is The Producers (1968), which is celebrating its 50th anniversary!
You can select from 50 of the films that are screening at TCMFF to rent. Load up your DVD Netflix queue and have your own classic movie festival at home (and save your pennies and go to TCMFF next year)!
