Did you know that one of DVD Netflix’s most rented movies from 2014 was Guardians of the Galaxy? I know I had it in my rental queue as soon as I saw the previews. I love the way that the movie combined action and humor to make something that was exciting AND family-friendly!
Of course, by now we’ve watched Guardians of the Galaxy: Volumes 1 and 2, as well as Avengers: Infinity War, and we are waiting impatiently to see more of our Starlord, Rocket, Groot, and the gang! In the meantime, here are six more fun movies that combine action and humor!
Synopsis: Miami narcotics cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are on the trail of a master crook who's snatched $100 million worth of heroin. To get the lone witness to talk, Lowrey and Burnett must pose as each other, swapping lives as they work the case.
My thoughts: Bad Boys was one of the best buddy cop movies of the 1990s (notice I said “one of”… another one is coming). Pairing Will Smith and Martin Lawrence was genius. This movie is both action-filled and very, very funny!
Synopsis: In this imaginative sci-fi epic, a 23rd-century cabbie finds himself involved with a fetching alien who may hold the key to saving the world. But it's curtains for planet Earth unless the duo can stay a step ahead of a demented villain named Zorg.
My thoughts: The Fifth Element is literally one of my favorite movies of ALL TIME. Back when I had cable, I was powerless to resist it when I would randomly find it when clicking through channels. Funny + tons of action = perfection!
Synopsis: When Hong Kong inspector Lee heads to Los Angeles to investigate a kidnapping, the FBI assigns cocky LAPD cop James Carter to distract Lee from the case. Not content to watch from the sidelines, Lee and Carter form an unlikely partnership.
My thoughts: Once I added Bad Boys to my list, I realized that the list would not be complete without Rush Hour! I loved the pairing of Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, and they certainly brought both the jokes and the action star moves!
Synopsis: Looking to retire and open a restaurant, a bounty hunter named Beck gets roped into one final assignment: fetching his employer's errant son from the Amazon jungle. Along the way, Beck finds himself involved in a treasure hunt and a rebel uprising.
My thoughts: I have quite the well-documented crush on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and this movie just fueled that fire. The interactions between The Rock and Sean William Scott are absolutely hilarious and the fights were action-packed. Such a great, full-of-fun action movie. In fact, I’m adding this one back to my queue right now!
Synopsis: Unassuming CIA analyst Susan Cooper is far from being a James Bond type, but when she's thrust into the field to investigate the disappearance of her partner, she turns into an improbable superspy.
My thoughts: I have probably seen this movie five times and it still makes me laugh every single time. I actually downloaded it on my Kindle so that I have it available every time I fly… just in case I need some extra giggles. Melissa McCarthy is not only funny, she’s got some pretty awesome superspy movies. You know, when she’s not falling off a scooter…
Synopsis: In the ancient war's epic third chapter, Thor is being held captive on the far side of the cosmos when he learns that the villainous Hela plans to destroy Asgard. But to save his people, Thor must prevail in a gladiatorial contest against the Hulk.
My thoughts: Oh my gosh, my husband and I laughed SO HARD through this entire movie. While there was plenty of action to keep the story moving, there were also lots of little hilarious moments!
